Class of 2015 Scores 100% Pass Rate on Part I of National Board Examinations

9/30/13

I am delighted to share with you the news that the Class of 2015 has achieved a 100 percent first attempt pass rate on Part I of the National Board Dental Examinations -- a statistic significantly above the national average. Such success has become the virtual norm in the past five years. Indeed, Class of 2013 graduates who took Part II of the National Boards last January had a 98 percent first attempt pass rate. The magnitude of this success is amplified by the fact that the NYU Dentistry student body is four to five times larger than the typical dental school, suggesting that board scores would be likely to regress toward the national mean. Instead, the data show that NYU dental students are raising the bar on performance standards nationally. The engine that drives such success is fueled by our outstanding faculty, who role model best clinical practices, are available for individual tutorials, and have the best interests of our students foremost in their minds. I offer hearty congratulations to our extraordinary students and faculty on their exceptional achievement.

Sincerely,

Charles N. Bertolami, DDS, DMedSc
