Palm, a pioneer in the field of mobile and wireless Internet solutions and a leading provider of handheld computers, has awarded a mobile medicine technology grant to the NYU College of Dentistry. NYU Dentistry is one of 17 U.S. universities and teaching hospitals in medicine, dentistry, pharmacology, and veterinary medicine to receive grants.
The NYU Dentistry grant provides 25 color Palm Pilots, Palm IIICs, which will be used to help faculty and students gain insight into the best ways of integrating handhelds into the dental education program. Projects will include English-to-Spanish and Spanish-to-English translations of greetings, dental health histories, and emergency treatment, diagnosis, and treatment planning. Subsequently, faculty will investigate the use of palm handhelds and dental language translation software by third-year students at the point of care.
