Advanced Standing Program for International Dentists

New York University College of Dentistry (NYU Dentistry) offers an Advanced Standing into the DDS program for the internationally trained dentist who seeks to practice dentistry in the United States. Students admitted with advanced placement enter a 27-months full-time program accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA). With its culmination in the DDS degree, the graduating dentist has met the educational requirement for licensure. Please submit your application through ADEA CAAPID.

Requirements to apply to program

English Language Proficiency

  • Must be proficient in the English language.
  • All applicants must take the TOEFL to be considered for admission.
  • Accept Internet-based TOEFL (iBT) and Paper-Based (PBT) exams.
  • Minimum score required on iBT is 100 and for PBT is 603. No exceptions will be made. Applications will not be reviewed if they do not meet the minimum score required.
  • Must submit original TOEFL score report directly from ETS to NYU Dentistry upon request of the Office of Admission.
  • Candidate’s copies are not accepted.
  • TOEFL exam is valid only for two years, and must not expire before the start date.
  • The TOEFL exam will not be waived.

National Board Dental Examination Requirements

  • Program requires passage of Part I & II NBDE to be considered for admission. Both exams are mandatory.
  • Must submit original NDBE I & II score report directly from the ADA to NYU Dentistry upon request of the Admissions Office.
  • Candidate’s copies are not accepted.

Letter of Evaluation

  • Program requires three Letters of Evaluation.
  • Program requires one Letter of Evaluation to come from Dean of dental school from which applicant graduated.
  • All letters of recommendation must be sent directly to CAAPID.

Transcripts and Evaluations

  • Applicant must submit official course by course evaluation to ADEA CAAPID by ECE. We do not accept evaluations from WES or any other credential evaluators.

  • Upon receipt of an email from the Office of Admissions, please submit the application fee of US$100, made payable to NYU College of Dentistry, and mailed to:
