Awards

There are a number of awards presented for excellence and for high academic standards in dental hygiene. They are bestowed on those students who best qualify for these awards at graduation.

A Dean’s list is compiled at the end of each academic year. Dental hygiene students who elect a minimum of eighteen (18) points in an academic year and achieve a grade point average of 3.3 or higher will be placed on the Dean’s list.

At the time of graduation, a dental hygiene student with a cumulative grade point average of 3.3 or higher will receive an AAS or BS with honors.

Following are additional awards presented at Graduation:

Valedictorian, Bachelor of Science Class is awarded to the Baccalaureate graduating student exemplifying academic excellence through achieving the highest grade point average in his or her graduating class.  

Valedictorian, Associate in Applied Science Class is awarded to the Associate graduating student exemplifying academic excellence through achieving the highest grade point average in his or her graduating class.  

The Sigma Phi Alpha Honor Society Award is presented to the graduating dental hygiene student in recognition of outstanding scholarship, moral character, and the potential for future growth and attainment.

The Advanced Studies Award is presented to the graduating dental hygiene student in recognition of dedication to continuing scholarship through pursuit of a baccalaureate degree.

The Alla J. Wheeler Ethics and Professionalism Award is in memory of Professor Wheeler, who served on the Dimensions Editorial Advisory Board and chaired the College’s Council on Ethics and Professionalism. This award is given to the student who exemplifies ethics and professionalism through his/her dental hygiene education. Graduating students to submit candidate’s name with essay on why nominee should be named.

The Dental Hygienists’ Association of the State of New York President’s Award is presented to the graduating dental hygiene student who has exhibited strong interests and involvement in the student association chapter and the future of dental hygiene.

The Proficiency Award of the Dental Hygienists’ Association of the City of New York is presented to the senior dental hygiene student for showing greatest proficiency in dental hygiene skills, and active participation on the Student American Dental Hygienists’ Association.

Hu-Friedy Golden Scaler Award is presented to the graduating dental hygiene student who demonstrated clinical excellence in providing education and care to the population.

Excellence in Dental Hygiene Award, sponsored by Johnson & Johnson, is presented to the graduating dental hygiene student who demonstrated high scholastic ability as well as an outstanding professional manner when dealing with patients and fellow classmates.is presented to the graduating dental hygiene student who demonstrated clinical excellence in providing education and care to the population.

Premier BS Award is awarded to a Bachelor of Science degree graduate who demonstrates exceptional professional development in patient care, research and growth for the dental hygiene profession.
 

Premier AAS Award is awarded to an Associate degree graduate who demonstrates exceptional growth, professional development and clinical skills in the study of dental hygiene.

Colgate Oral Pharmaceuticals STAR Award is awarded to the graduating dental hygiene student who demonstrates true dedication to the dental hygiene profession, exhibits compassion in patient care, displays enthusiasm for community service and enjoys the role of dental hygienist.

The Stevenson Award is presented to the senior dental hygiene student typifying excellence in the delivery of dental hygiene care and high scholastic achievement
