The 91st Congress of the European Orthodontic Society (EOS) has selected two oral presentations and nine poster presentations submitted by five current CTOR (Consortium for Translational Orthodontic Research) fellows and nine CTOR alumni, as well as by DDS students and postgraduate students in orthodontics at NYU, for its 2015 conference in Venice, Italy, from June 13 to 18. CTOR’s participation will be the largest by any group at the conference.

All of the submitters were mentored in their research by Dr. Mani Alikhani, associate professor of orthodontics and director of CTOR, and by Dr. Cristina Teixeira, associate professor and chair of the Department of Orthodontics.

CTOR offers both a one- and a two-year fellowship that trains fellows to translate bench lab results into clinical dental applications in diverse specialties. It is a resource for the integration of basic science, clinical science, and industry research and trials.

"CTOR’s ultimate goal," said Dr. Alikhani, "is to bridge the gap between basic science and clinical practice, to elevate the specialty of orthodontics from an art to a science, and to move orthodontics into an evidence-based practice built on solid biological principles. The EOS’s selection of CTOR oral and poster presentations has shown that our work is one step closer to our goal. The fellows and all the students have done an amazing job, and I wish them great success with their presentations."
