Program Structure

The fellowship is full-time, running from Monday to Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, divided into 80% clinical and 20% didactic components, emphasizing hands-on learning and practical application. You will be able to work on patients directly, under the close supervision of a highly experienced and diverse faculty made up of leading practitioners in the field of esthetic dentistry and related disciplines.

Upon successful completion of our Advanced Clinical Fellowship in Oral Surgery, students will attain a comprehensive understanding of the biological foundations underpinning oral surgery theory and practice. Students gain hands-on experience in patient care, treating a diverse range of cases under the guidance of our esteemed faculty, and experts in the field of oral surgery.

The program allows students to develop essential technical competencies, encompassing procedures like tooth extractions, management of associated complications, handling oral infections, addressing impacted teeth, and collaborating on complex cases requiring multi-disciplinary expertise.

The program equips you with skills in peri-radicular surgery, dentoalveolar surgery in the context of orthodontic treatment, intraoral and labial biopsy techniques, as well as proficiency in pain and anxiety control, including conscious sedation techniques. Furthermore, you'll explore the critical role of research and technology in the realm of oral surgery, honing your ability to assess and evaluate current literature and embracing the innovative possibilities in the field.

Our Oral Surgery Program is designed to provide students with comprehensive training in the field of oral surgery, preparing them for a range of complex procedures. Key clinical procedures include:

Dentoalveolar Surgery: Develop expertise in performing various types of extractions, including impacted wisdom teeth and surgical extractions, pre-prosthetic surgery, Orthodontic exposures, and management of oro-facial infections.

Implant Placement: Learn to plan and surgically place dental implants, addressing tooth loss and edentulous areas ranging from single tooth replacement to full arch restorations. Our students also learn how to leverage contemporary measures such as digital dentistry and robotics in the planning and execution of these complex cases.

Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology: Gain insights into diagnosing and managing oral and maxillofacial pathologies, including cysts, tumors, and other lesions of the oral cavity.

Orthognathic Surgery: Acquire skills in the diagnosis of dentofacial deformities and learn more about orthognathic surgery to correct these deformities, improving both aesthetics and function.

Trauma and Reconstruction: Learn to manage facial trauma and perform reconstructive procedures for patients with injuries.

Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ) Surgery: Understand and perform surgical interventions for patients with TMJ disorders.

Students in our Oral Surgery Program have the opportunity to work on a wide range of cases, including:

Third Molar Extractions: Addressing common issues associated with impacted wisdom teeth.

Dental Implant Cases: Planning and executing dental implant procedures for patients with single or multiple missing teeth.

Pathology and Lesion Management: Diagnosing and treating oral and maxillofacial pathologies and lesions.

Orthognathic Surgery Cases: Correcting facial deformities and occlusal issues through surgical intervention.

Facial Trauma Cases: Managing complex cases involving facial injuries and performing reconstructive procedures.

TMJ Disorder Cases: Evaluating and treating patients with temporomandibular joint disorders.

In addition to hands-on clinical experiences, our program includes a robust curriculum of didactic topics and seminars that cover essential theoretical aspects of oral surgery. Some of the seminar topics include:

Oral Surgery Principles: Delve into the fundamental principles of oral surgery, including surgical anatomy, aseptic techniques, and anesthesia.

 

Radiographic Interpretation: Learn to interpret various imaging modalities for diagnosis and treatment planning including plain film and computed tomography

Anesthesia and Sedation: Understand the principles of anesthesia and sedation in oral surgery addressing the key issue of anxiety and pain control ensuring patient comfort and safety.

Medical Management and Complications: Explore the medical management of patients and the recognition and management of surgical complications.

Emerging Techniques: Stay updated with the latest advancements in oral surgery, including minimally invasive techniques and digital treatment planning.

After completing the program, you'll be awarded a certificate of attendance. This certificate is different from the postgraduate program certificate given to full-time international postgraduates in specialty training, which is necessary for recognition by the Commission on Dental Accreditation.

It's important to note that our program is not CODA-accredited. However, in some U.S. states, there may be opportunities for two-year graduates to obtain a license. To get the specific requirements for licensure, please reach out to the dental boards in each state.

Eligibility requirements:

  • All candidates must have graduated from dental school.
  • The program does not require clinical experience.

Application required documents:

  • Dental school diploma.
  • Dental school transcript (mark sheet) listing subjects studied, and grades received.
  • A personal statement of 1-2 pages in length explaining your interest in the program, including information on your academic background, career goals, and qualifications.
  • Letter of recommendation from a Dean, professor, or supervisor.

Application fee:

  • Pay the non-refundable application fee of $100
