To our DDS Class of 2020: August 2016 is not a distant memory. When I close my eyes and think back, I can easily recall standing on the Septodont stage, staring at all of your excited smiling faces in professional attire (which would quickly transition to scrubs) and sharing with you just how quickly these four years would go by. While there were numerous stressors and sleepless nights, there were an equal number of successes to celebrate, friendships made, and events enjoyed. I hope the happy memories are what stay with you as you move on in your journey.
As we all cope with the insurmountable feelings of loss considering our expectations for May 2020, let it not be lost on you how much you have achieved in these last four years, and how much you have to look forward to as you gaze toward the future. This is not the end, but so much more the beginning ...
To you and your loved ones, my sincerest Congratulations. I am so proud to be able to call you DOCTORS!

— Maya Ardon; Director, Student Affairs

Congratulations to our 2020 NYU Dentistry graduating senior class. I am wishing you all the very best of future success. As I celebrate all of you, I especially want to give special thought to my students in Drs. Raymond and Gendler's group practices. Due to illness, I regret that I was unable to finish out the year with you, but you all have certainly been in my thoughts. Your hard work at NYU Dentistry has finally come to an end, but will continue on as you hold fast to all of what you've learned both personally and professionally. Let integrity, knowledge, and your passion for the field of work that you have chosen for yourselves guide you along your way to a happy life and a successful professional career.

I wanted to send my best wishes to the Class of 2020. Most of you have never met me, although all of you have received emails from me this year about dental licensure. Little did I realize the magnitude of my presentation last July would evolve to now: "The Changing Landscape of Dental Licensure." The milestone of completing a most rigorous and prestigious academic program is a fantastic accomplishment. As you look into the mirror at the end of the month and can no longer have to say "Student Doctor" but just "Doctor" will be inspiring. With that title comes many obligations, responsibilities, and privileges. Use them to better the health and wellbeing of the public you will serve. The NYU family including myself are always here to assist you. You are entering unchartered waters not just in dentistry. NYU has trained you well for these challenges. Frank Sinatra sang, "If you get make it here, you can make it anywhere." I wish you all the best. You are prepared for the future and NYU is always here to support you.

— James Kaim, DDS; Professor, Dept. of Cariology & Comprehensive Care
