Cambodian Schools Adopt NYU Dentistry's School-based Oral Health Model
The Global Outreach team traveled to Phnom Penh, Cambodia, from December 6 - 15, 2016, to establish a school-based oral health prevention program in collaboration with the National University of Singapore (NUS) Faculty of Dentistry and A Call To Share Singapore. NYU Dentistry faculty and administrators trained NUS faculty on outcomes tracking and implementation of classroom-based preventive measures. Based on the Smile Grenada program, which provided oral health education and prevention to more than 26,000 children from 2011 to 2013, the program will promote caries prevention and oral health awareness among children, teachers, and parents in two underserved schools..
Special Olympic Athletes Gear Up for Winter Games With Help from PG Pediatric and DDS Students
On December 10, 2016, Drs. Ivory Ward and Steven Dias, students in the Advanced Education Program in Pediatric Dentistry, accompanied a group of 15 DDS students to the Jacob Javits Center, where they provided oral health education and screenings and made mouth guards for more than 60 athletes participating in the Winter Special Olympic games.
NYU Dentistry/ADEA Gies Academic Dental Careers Fellowship Program Off to A Great Start
The ADEA Academic Dental Careers Fellowship Program (ADCFP) was introduced in spring 2016 to foster camaraderie and view teaching and learning in a broader context of scholarship, inquiry, and discovery. "In its first year," says program coordinator Dr. Mitchell J. Lipp, "10 faculty mentors and student fellows have pursued individualized action plans and are stepping out in all sorts of ways." They include:

"Smile Grenada" Outreach Program Spotlighted in Scientific American
A special Scientific American supplement, produced in collaboration with Colgate, "The Future of Oral Health, Global Challenges, and New Technologies," featured an article on NYU Dentistry’s multiyear assessment and intervention program, "Smile Grenada." » In addition, Scientific American and Colgate hosted a salon-type event, "How Global Challenge, Advances and New Technologies Will Shape the Future of Oral Health," on November 28, 2016, to showcase the innovation and innovators driving oral health today and tomorrow. Speakers included Dr. Michael C. Alfano, president, Santa Fe Group; professor, dean, and executive vice president emeritus, NYU; Dr. Marko Vujicic, chief economist and vice president, Health Policy Institute, American Dental Association; Sharon Guynup, editorial director, The Future of Oral Health, Scientific American Custom Media; Ian M. - John D. McIntosh Promoted to Associate Dean for Clinical Administration and Revenue Cycle Management
Executive Vice Dean for Finance & Administration Dr. Michael P. O’Connor has announced that John D. McIntosh has been promoted to associate dean for clinical administration and revenue cycle management, effective December 1, 2016.
John joined the College of Dentistry approximately five years ago as the senior director for clinical revenue cycle and financial operations. Since his arrival, John has assumed the leadership of all of the College’s non-clinical, patient-centered activities, including insurance strategy and management, supply management, central sterilization, the central dental labs, concierge, and telephone call center, and has developed policies and procedures to ensure clinical finance compliance. In addition, he has been a key partner, together with Mark Wolff and Ken Fauerbach, in the successful roll out of the business aspects of the EHR project.

2016 Student Appreciation Day
On November 21, 2016, the Office of Student Affairs & Academic Support Services sponsored a full day appreciation program for all students. Activities included a prize wheel give-away, a hot chocolate social, a photo booth, and free massages.
15th Annual Implant Alumni Symposium
One hundred and fifty implant program alumni, pre- and postdoctoral dental students, international programs students, master of science degree candidates, and faculty attended the College’s 15th Annual Implant Alumni Symposium held on November 4, 2016. This year's symposium, which was co-hosted by the Office for International Programs and the Ashman Department of Periodontology & Implant Dentistry, included alumni from 35 countries.
NYU Dentistry Welcomes 20 D4 Students from Norway’s University of Bergen
The College welcomed 20 fourth-year dental students from the University of Bergen in Norway on November 3, and 4, 2016. The two-day visit, sponsored by the Department of Cariology and Comprehensive Care, included an overview of the College, campus tours led by members of the Classes of 2017 and 2018, presentations on integrated learning and patient-centered care, and participation in the 15th Annual Implant Alumni Symposium presented by the Office for International Programs and the Ashman Department of Periodontology & Implant Dentistry.

Fall for Healthy Smiles! Back-to-School Brush-a-Thon
On Wednesday, September 28, 2016, 26 children from P.S. 142 joined the NYU Pediatric Dentistry team, Oral Health America (OHA) representatives, and NYS Assemblyman Brian Kavanagh to learn an important lesson about keeping their smiles healthy and bright. All youngsters simultaneously brushed their teeth for two minutes at 11:30 am – the correct amount of time everyone should brush. The program provided a great opportunity to create good brushing habits at an early age and to kick start a lifetime of healthy teeth and gums. LEARN MORE >>>

More than 400 candidates for the Doctor of Dental Surgery degree, AAS and BS degrees in dental hygiene, MS degrees in clinical research and in biomaterials, and Advanced Education Program certificates saw their dreams come true as they received their degrees and certificates before an audience of approximately 4,000 people in The Theater at Madison Square Garden on May 26.
