Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
The people who comprise NYU Dentistry appreciate and support the importance of a diverse environment in which students, faculty, and staff feel included, valued and empowered. We recognize that our diverse population comes with unique experiences and different perspectives, which provide us with a valuable opportunity to deliver the best services to our community. We recognize that our individual social, economic and cultural identities shape and influence our experiences and drive our perspectives. However, it is important to understand that NYU Dentistry will always ensure diversity in our population across the different facets of social, economic and cultural identity as we embrace and practice inclusivity.
Celebrating Black History
For the 18th consecutive year, NYU will commemorate Dr. King’s visit to the University Heights Campus in 1961 and honor his legacy by hosting a week-long (Feb. 13–18) schedule of special events.
The highlight of the week will be the University-Wide Event on Thursday, February 16, which will feature a conversation with playwright and composer-lyricist Michael R. Jackson (Tisch ’03, ’05) and other special guests, as well as the presentation of this year’s Humanitarian Award to Professor Michael Dinwiddie (Gallatin ’80, Tisch ’83).

The Legacy of Black Dentists and the Challenges They Have Faced
The February 2023 issue of the Journal of the American Dental Association (JADA) features as its cover story, "We Have Come: 110 years of Black dentists in the United States," a guest editorial by Dr. Eleanor Fleming and Dr. Dennis A. Mitchell.
