The NYU Dentistry chapter of the Hispanic Student Dental Association has been awarded first place in the 2020 Nuestros Niños (Our Children) Competition, a national competition among all U.S. dental schools. The competition is supported by Colgate Oral Pharmaceuticals and the Hispanic Dental Association.

The competition calls for HSDA Student Chapters to present a comprehensive pediatric dental case that addresses healthcare issues, prevention, and oral care strategies for Hispanic children. NYU’s HSDA chapter’s winning case presentation was titled “Ectopic Eruption of a First Permanent Molar: A Clinical Evaluation of Pediatric Patients in a School-based Dental Program.”

The student presenters, Claudia Razzetto, '21, and Giannina Conde, ’21, shared the $5,000 first-place award and NYU’s HSDA chapter received $500. Pediatric faculty advisor Dr. Rose Amable, clinical assistant professor of pediatric dentistry, will publish this case on the Colgate Oral Health Care Network. This is the second consecutive year in which NYU’s HSDA chapter has won the first place award in the Nuestros Niños Competition.
