NYU Dentistry Dedicates New Apa Aesthetic Suite
On Monday, October 28th, NYU College of Dentistry held a dedication ceremony for the new Apa Aesthetic Suite, a state-of-the-art clinical facility located on the first floor of the College. The suite—made possible by a transformational gift from alumnus Dr. Michael Apa, ’03—is now the first permanent home for aesthetic dentistry education at NYU, housing the newly renamed Apa Advanced Clinical Fellowship in Aesthetics and the DDS Apa Honors Program in Aesthetic Dentistry.
“This represents a full circle. Dr. Apa started out as a student here and was one of the first graduates of the DDS honors program in aesthetics, and now he has his name on this beautiful aesthetic suite here,” said Dean Charles Bertolami in his opening remarks, adding that the new suite “reflects the quality that Dr. Apa’s name has come to embody and the achievements that he has attained.”
Many faculty, staff, students, and friends of the College joined Dr. Apa and Dean Bertolami to celebrate the opening of the Apa Aesthetic Suite, including two of Dr. Apa’s mentors, Dr. Larry Rosenthal, '72, and Dr. John Calamia, as well as Dr. Anabella Oquendo, assistant dean for international programs and director of the Apa Advanced Clinical Fellowship in Aesthetics. Dr. Apa collaborated with NYU Dentistry on the design of the Apa Aesthetic Suite, inspired by the modern style of his practices.
In the two decades since his graduation from NYU, Dr. Apa has helped to transform the field of aesthetic dentistry and distinguished himself as one of its leaders. He has practices in New York, Los Angeles, Dubai, and most recently, Miami.
“It’s the most remarkable level of achievement, and we couldn’t be any prouder of all that he has accomplished,” said Dean Bertolami. “We are so grateful that Dr. Apa has chosen to support NYU Dentistry, the institution that shaped him as a dentist and set him on his path to success.”
