Third Annual Dr. Bernard P. Tillis Award for Excellence in Dental Journalism to NYU College of Dentistry Student
Cristian Morazan, Class of 1999, has received the third annual Dr. Bernard P. Tillis Award for Outstanding Talent and Achievement in Dental Journalism. The Tillis Award, a certificate and a cash prize, was established in 1996 by Mrs. Bella Tillis in honor of her late husband, Dr. Bernard P. Tillis, a 1936 graduate of the NYU College of Dentistry who served for 22 years as editor of The New York State Dental Journal.
Mr. Morazan is the editor in chief of The Probe, NYU College of Dentistry's Hispanic Dental Association Newsletter. In addition to his editorial duties and to maintaining a fine academic record, he spearheaded the association's recent submission of official comments on the Oral Health chapter of the Healthy People 2010 objectives.
"We admire and appreciate the generosity and friendship of Mrs. Tillis," said Dean Michael C. Alfano, in presenting Mr. Morazan the Tillis Award. "It is an especially fitting way to honor and perpetuate the unique legacy of her late husband. Bernard Tillis was a legend in the dental profession, and students like Cristian assure that his ideals and professionalism will continue."
