Le maistre en chirurgie; ou, L'abregé de la Chirurgie de Guy de Chauliac, expliqué par demandes & réponses 1740 (6th Ed.)

Le maistre en chirurgie

Laurent Verduc (d 1703).

This is the 6th edition of a classic work, originally published by Laurent Verduc (d 1695) and subsequently in 1704, 1709, 1716, 1726 and this 6th edition by Verduc’s son, also Laurent.

The Laurent family of French surgeons were famous. They took upon themselves to edit a classic French work by the 14th century Montpellier Surgeon, Guy de Chauliac and re-worked it into a text that was used in the 17th century as a textbook for surgeons preparing to pass their final master examination. The book is reformulated as question and answers and a candidate was expected to know all the answers to qualify for the title of Chirurgien Jurée. The 6th edition, in our possession also includes etymological dictionary of Greek words.
