The Alumni Association Alumni Series serves to connect dental professionals and share stories of success. Open to NYU Dentistry alumni, faculty, and friends, each Alumni Series features a guest speaker, followed by a networking cocktail hour. Attendees may also receive 2 or more Continuing Education credits. The Alumni Series are sponsored by the Office of Development and Alumni Relations. Dr. Fabiola Milord '94

In the course of delivering dental care, the unexpected happens. This program will raise awareness about what can derail both clinically and non-clinically in the progression of practicing dentistry. Various outcomes and challenges regarding patient care, government investigations, and practice management will be reviewed. Emphasis will be placed on prevention, vigilance, and being strategic in your response to worse case scenarios.

Dr. Fabiola Milord

Dr. Fabiola Milord graduated from NYU Dentistry in '94. She is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Cariology and Comprehensive Care at NYU Dentistry and maintains a private practice. She is the former president of the Nassau County Dental Society. Dr. Milord currently serves as board member of NYU Dentistry Alumni Association and is active in many dental organizations.

Dr. Patrick Bivona

Effectively managing a dental office is just as important as providing dedicated patient care. Learn about investment strategies, succession planning and exit strategies for new and experienced dental professionals. Certified financial planner Dr. Bivona will share best practice management tips and his Ten Envelope System for Success ( T.E.S.S ).

Dr. Patrick Bivona

Dr. Patrick Bivona is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Cariology and Comprehensive Care at NYU Dentistry, where he has been teaching since 1989. As a certified financial planner, Dr. Bivona speaks regularly at practice management seminars in New York and is an advisor for the Dental Economics Club at the College. He received his DDS degree from Fairleigh Dickinson University.

  


  

"Hit Me With Your Best Shot" Local Anesthesia with Dr. Stanley Malamed

This program is open to all dental professionals, including dentists, hygienists, staff and students.

Effectively managing and preventing a patient's pain is just as important as actually performing the treatment. The use of local anesthesia as a pain control technique is safe and effective, and can help make your patient comfortable during their treatment.

Renowned dental anesthesiologist Dr. Malamed discusses how to make local anesthetic injections more effective and comfortable for your patients by utilizing:

  • Articaine
  • Buffering (the local anesthetic "on switch")
  • Phentolamine (the local anesthetic "off switch")
  • computer-controlled local anesthetic delivery (C-CLAD) 
  • the nasal local anesthetic spray for maxiallary non-molar teeth

An algorthim for mandibular anesthesia will be presented, followed by a Q & A session.

Dr. Stanley Malamed graduated from NYU Dentistry in 1969. He is a dental anesthesiologist and Emeritus Professor of Dentistry at the Herman Ostrow School of Dentistry of USC in Los Angeles, where he taught from 1973 to 2013.

Dr. Malamed is a Diplomate of the American Dental Board of Anesthesiology. He has authored more than 160 scientific papers and 17 chapters in various medical and dental journals and textbooks in the areas of physical evaluation, emergency medicine, local anesthesia, sedation and general anesthesia.

Additionally, he is the author of the widely used textbook: Handbook of Local Anesthesia and the interactive DVD: Malamed’s Local Anesthetic Technique.
