Implant Dentistry

The Advanced Program for International Dentists in Implant Dentistry is a full-time, two-year clinical and didactic course of study. It is offered to dentists of all countries, including the United States, who seek to improve their clinical skills and knowledge in the field of implant dentistry.

Admission

Priority is given to applicants with two years of clinical experience. Applicants with less experience are still encouraged to apply.

Objectives

Upon successful completion of the Advanced Program for International Dentists in Implant Dentistry participants will have a thorough didactic understanding and clinical competence in the diagnosis, surgical placement of endosseous dental implants, and restoration of dental implants. Participants will have the ability to successfully diagnose, treatment plan and complete treatment of assigned clinical patient cases, which require specific implant surgical procedures, and prosthetic rehabilitation of the completely or partially edentulous dentition. They will also have a knowledge of the literature and evidence based studies to understand the science of implant placement and restoration. It is the aim of the program to have the participant become a future pioneer in the field of Implant Dentistry.

Faculty

Participants treat a variety of patients under the close guidance dedicated faculty who attend at all clinic session. Faculty mentors are assigned to each incoming clinician. This valuable support enables the participant to learn from world-renowned dental clinicians in the field.

Course Components

Didactic topics throughout the two-year program include a thorough understanding of: basic sciences, clinical sciences, and current and future concepts in implant dentistry. A vast array of lectures, seminars, conferences and clinical experience are specifically designed to increase the participant’s understanding of implant dentistry and most related cutting edge subjects. Areas of concentration in research, surgery and/or prosthetics will be available to increase knowledge and improve skills, dependent upon previous background, training and experience.

There are opportunities to participate in elective experiences such as teaching, research and professional society meetings. Participation includes but is not limited to: Academy of Osseointegration (AO), Greater New York Dental Meeting (GNDM), International Congress of Oral Implantologists (ICOI), American Prosthodontic Society (APS), and Robert Schoor North East Implant Symposium (NEIS). Annual NYU Dentistry events include the Implant Alumni Symposium and Research Scholarship Expo. Many participants in the Implant Dentistry program receive awards for their poster presentations in these annual scientific professional meetings.

One of the most interesting and valuable aspects of the program is the requirement for participants to publish a scholarly article as a lead author. Upon completion, most alumni continue to teach, lecture and publish articles globally. To date, our Implant Dentistry alumni have published over 200 scholarly articles in peer-reviewed journals.

Completion of the Advanced Program for International Dentists in Implant Dentistry allows participants to immediately apply for the Fellowship and Diplomate status in the ICOI. No other Implant program in the world offers this unique opportunity.
