Information for Schools

We know that your students’ health is a top priority to you.

As teachers, you know:

  • Cavities on children’s teeth can grow very fast causing pain and infection
  • The pain and infection can make it difficult for children to concentrate in class
  • Untreated cavities can lead to lower standardized test scores and increase school absences

Our dental care is safe, effective, and is provided at no cost to families.

  • No shots, no drilling, no pain
  • Eliminates almost 80% of cavities
  • Takes as little as 10 minutes, two times per year.

CariedAway care includes:

  • Oral screening
  • Tooth-brushing and flossing instruction
  • Prevention and treatment: toothbrush cleaning, topical fluoride treatments (fluoride varnish, silver diamine fluoride), sealants, and temporary fillings
  • Referral to a dentist for further care, if needed.
  • All children are eligible to participate, regardless of insurance coverage or immigration status.
  • There is no out-of-pocket expense. If a child does not have insurance, our program will cover the cost of care. The program will charge Medicaid to ensure long-term sustainability.

How can we partner together to help improve the oral health and academic performance of your students?

  • Inform parents about CariedAway. Teachers can share information about CariedAway and the importance of oral health during parent meetings/activities. Teachers can provide parents with a copy of our consent form during parent engagement/meetings. Teachers can use communication/attendance apps (e.g.: ClassDojo, Remind, Kinvolved) to share with parents links to CariedAway’s website, blank consent forms, electronic consents, and Register page.
  • Talk to your students about the importance of oral health. Please view the resources we've posted for ideas on how to incorporate oral health education into your classroom.
  • Schools can create student incentives (for individual classrooms, per grade, or per school) for students returning completed consent forms.
  • Schools can send phone/email blasts informing parents about CariedAway and how to register their children.
  • Schools can use social media to inform parents about our cavity prevention program, website, and consent forms: Register Your Child and Registre a Su Hijo/a.
