Cristian Stefan, MD is a Clinical Professor with a multifaceted experience in the healthcare professions education and a Harvard Macy scholar. He has worked with dental and medical students, interns and residents for more than 30 years. His expertise extends over teaching, curricular design, innovative instructional approaches and methodology, faculty development, medical simulation and inter-professional education.

His multidisciplinary teaching experience includes Neuroscience, Physiology, Pathophysiology, Clinical Anatomy, Histology, Embryology, Clinical Skills and Medical Humanities, with emphasis on critical thinking, integration, clinical relevance, contextual and experiential learning, and collaborative work.

Prior to joining NYU College of Dentistry in 2015, where he also participates in the teaching program at the NYU School of Medicine, Dr. Stefan’s rich academic portfolio included faculty appointments at the University of Massachusetts Medical School, Tulane University School of Medicine, Medical College of Georgia, Touro University College of Medicine, and Pikeville University Kentucky College of Osteopathic Medicine as well as part-time teaching at Harvard Medical School and Harvard School of Dental Medicine. In addition, he has been a visiting or guest faculty at other universities in the USA, Sweden, South Africa, Argentina, Japan and Grenada, as well as an invited speaker, chair or member on panels and symposia, and presenter at numerous national and international conferences.

Over the years, Dr. Stefan has had an active presence in multiple associations and at various venues, e.g. American Association of Clinical Anatomists (AACA), Society for Simulation in Healthcare (SSH), Association for Medical Education in Europe (AMEE), International Association for Medical Science Educators (IAMSE), Society for Neuroscience (SfN), Argentine Association of Clinical Anatomy (AAAC), Asia Pacific Medical Education Conference (APMEC), American Association of Anatomists / Experimental Biology (AAA/EB), International Federation of Associations of Anatomists (IFAA), etc.

Among positions held at national and international level, Dr. Stefan served as chair or co-chair of the Educational Affairs Committee of the American Association of Clinical Anatomists, councilor-at-large for the same association, member of the Educational Affairs Committee of the Society for Simulation in Healthcare, Program co-chair for the International Association of Medical Science Educators Annual Meeting, and member of the Anatomical Education Committee of the International Federation of Associations of Anatomists.

He has also developed and maintained a special interest regarding the symbiotic relationship between Art and Medicine. Alone or through collaborations, he organized or was invited to give interactive sessions and workshops on this topic at academic institutions and/or museums in the US and abroad.

Among other accomplishments, Dr. Stefan is co-author of the cutting-edge multimodality atlas "Imaging Anatomy of the Human Brain - A Comprehensive Atlas Including Adjacent Structures"; consulting editor (previously consulting co-editor) for the "Thieme Atlas of Anatomy - Head, Neck, and Neuroanatomy”; member of the Elsevier Medical Education Advisory Board and Editorial Board member for the “Elsevier Integrated Series” books.
