RESEARCH INTERESTS / PROFESSIONAL OVERVIEW

Dr. Maureen McAndrew is a Clinical Professor and Senior Director of Professional Development at New York University College of Dentistry (NYUCD). She received her DDS from NYUCD and a Master’s in Education degree from Baruch College, City University of New York. Dr. McAndrew is the program director for the one-year Teaching in Dental Education (T.I.D.E.) Fellowship Program. She is the creator and director of the Excellence in Clinical Teaching Program and Class ACTS (Advanced Clinical Teaching Scholars) program. Dr. McAndrew is the course director for the Practicum in Clinical Teaching for fourth-year dental students with an interest in academia and teaches Introduction to Pedagogy to all postgraduate students. She also teaches restorative dentistry and practice management. Inducted into the NYU Academy of Distinguished Educators in 2011, Dr. McAndrew serves on its Executive Board. She is a member of Faculty Council, the Faculty Advisor for the NYU American Dental Education Association (ADEA) chapter, and Student Activities Chair for the Omicron Kappa Upsilon Honor Society.

Dr. McAndrew serves on the Journal of Dental Education Editorial Review Board and is past-chair of the (ADEA) Section on Educational Research Development and Curriculum. She is the recipient of two NYU Humanities Council Curricular Development Grants and a PrMEIR grant from the NYU School of Medicine. She was the 2009 ADEA/Gies Education Fellow and is a Fellow in the Academy of General Dentistry. In 2011, Dr. McAndrew received the Association of Women Dentists P&G/Gillette Hayden Memorial Foundation Research Award. She was appointed a consultant site visitor for the Commission on Dental Accreditation in 2013. She was recently awarded the 2014 American Dental Association (ADA) Golden Apple Award for Inspiring Careers in Dental Education.
