The Buehler Ecomet 3 Variable Speed Grinder-Polisher and Metaserv 250 Grinder-Polisher are employed in the production of surface topographies on embedded blocks and their ground thin sections of 1µm and less.
Exakt Thin Sectioning System
An EXAKT 300 CP Band System, automated Grinding System, and Light Polymerization Unit facilitate rapid, semi-automated, routine histology for the production of specified section thicknesses of plastic embedded mineralized tissues (the mineral intact).
Leica SM2500E Microtome and SP2600 Ultramiller
This "sledge" microtome is designed for the production of very thin sections (e.g., 5-10 µm) of plastic embedded mineralized tissues. The SP2600 Ultramiller attachment produces topography free surfaces of embedded tissue blocks for examination by backscattered electron microscopy and X-ray microanalysis.
This press for pressures up to 11 tons is for the production of 13 mm diameter pellets for evaluation by FTIR or by LAICPMS.
