Biography

Farnaz received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Tehran, Iran. She obtained her PhD in Developmental Biology from the Max Planck Institute for Biophysical Chemistry in Goettingen, Germany in 2014. In 2015, she then joined Dr. Yu-Hua Tseng’s laboratory at the Joslin Diabetes Center, Harvard Medical School. Her postdoctoral research discovered new molecular and cellular pathways regulating brown adipose tissue thermogenesis.

Dr. Shamsi’s laboratory studies the regulation of adipose tissue development and function and its role in systemic metabolism. Farnaz is a recipient of several awards including the Max-Planck Society Scholarship, American Diabetes Association Postdoctoral Fellowship, and the K01 Career Development Award from NIH/NIDDK.
