Research Interests / Professional Overview

Providing oral health care to patients with developmental and medical compromises; teaching dental students and residents how to provide care to special needs patients.

Prior to coming to NYUCD and Bellevue Hospital, Dr. Dougherty was the Director of the Special Care Dental Program at the Children's Evaluation and Rehabilitation Center at Albert Einstein College of Medicine. She was also the founding director of the pediatric dental residency program at Jacobi Medical Center in the Bronx, NY. Dr. Dougherty currently serves on the Taskforce for Special Dentistry, under the auspices of the NY State Office of People with Developmental Disabilities.
