Calcium Wave
Calcium waves are induced by mechanical stimulation
The intercellular Ca2+ waves (ICW) induced by mechanical stimulation (MS) are dependent on extracellular ATP. Fura-2 fluorescence ratio (Fratio 340/380) images are shown before (-1 sec), at the time of (0 sec), and 5 and 10 seconds after the focal MS of salivary gland cell indicated by asterisk (*). Scale bar is 100 µm for all images. The ICW induced by mechanical stimulation was propagated within a cluster of cells and lasted several seconds.
