Summer Practicum

Our two-week Summer Practicum program at NYU College of Dentistry is specifically tailored to international dental students who want to experience a top-notch US education while exploring the city that never sleeps. Led by world-renowned faculty, the program offers a diverse range of activities, from in-depth lectures to hands-on training in pre-clinical settings. The cost of the program covers all lectures, hands-on training, and other activities, as well as the opportunity to observe live surgeries and procedures. Plus, with the chance to explore the vibrant city of New York and build lasting connections with faculty and students from all over the world. The program also includes:

  • School materials, including pre-clinical kits, lab coats, etc.
  • Faculty Evaluation Report of Students’ pre-clinical assignments.

Dr. Ye Shi

Week 1 Program Director

Dr. Ye Shi is Clinical Assistant Professor in the department of Periodontics and Implantology at NYU College of Dentistry and Program Director for the International Summer Practicum Program.

Dr. Shi received her DDS degree from Nanjing Medical University in China, 2011 and then completed a 3-year post-graduate residency and accomplished her master’s degree of Prosthodontics in Pecking Union Medical College, China. Afterward, she came to United States for further training. She first completed a three-year Advanced Program for International Dentists in Implant Dentistry at NYU College of Dentistry. Thereupon, she had her 3-year periodontal training in the Advanced Education Program of Periodontics at NYU College of Dentistry. Dr. Shi is a diplomate of American Board of Periodontology and Implant Dentistry, as well as a diplomate of the International Congress of Oral Implantologists.

In addition to lecturing nationally and internationally, Dr. Shi lectures for the Advanced Program for Periodontics and International Implant Program. She serves as Chair of Membership Committee of Northeastern Society of Periodontists and committee member of Global University Task Force and Clinical Innovation Committee of Academy of Osseointegration. She maintains membership of multiple organization such as the American Association of Periodontology, Northeastern Society of Periodontists, International Team for Implantology, Academy of Osseointegration. She has received numerous awards for her clinical research and published articles in peer-reviewed journals.

Dr. Guido Galletti

Week 2 Program Director

Dr. Guido Galletti is Adjunct Professor in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at NYU College of Dentistry and Program Director for the International Summer Practicum Program.

Dr. Galletti received his DDS degree cum laude from the University of Rome Tor Vergata.

He has noteworthy formation in the field of Oral Surgery and Implant Dentistry from his experience as Resident at the Oral Surgery Department at NYU College of Dentistry, completing the Advanced Program for International Dentists in 2015.

Afterwards he focused in aesthetic dentistry and prosthodontics completing post graduate education programs held by Dr. Federico Ferraris and Dr. Domenico Massironi.

From 2017 to 2020  was Research Fellow at the Department of Oral surgery and Implant Dentistry at University of Geneva, held by Prof. Antonio Barone, researching about bone regeneration and bone substitutes.

He is active member of the Italian Academy of Osseointegration (IAO), the Italian Society of Oral Surgery and Implantology (SICOI), the Bone Biomaterials and Beyond Academy (BBB Academy)  and member of the Academy of Osseointegration (AO), the European Academy for Osseointegration (EAO) and the International Team for Implantology (ITI).

He serves as Chair of the Next Gen Committee of the Italian Academy of Osseointegration (IAO) and he is Committee Member of the Young Clinicians Committee of the Academy of Osseointegration (AO).

He lectures nationally and internationally and he has received numerous awards for his clinical research and published articles in peer-reviewed journals.

He develops his multidisciplinar private practice at the Studio Dentistico Galletti in Perugia (Italy), focusing in Implant Dentistry, Oral Surgery and Esthetic Dentistry.

Eligibility requirements:

  • You must be a current dental student in a non-US dental program.
  • You must demonstrate the ability to understand and communicate in English.

Please note: Those who have completed a dental degree by the Program's start date are not eligible to apply for the Summer Practicum. Instead, consider applying to our full-time Programs for International Dentists.

Required Documents:

  • Submit 1 letter of recommendation (in English) from a professor who is familiar with your academic performance.
  • Submit a personal statement 1-2 pages in length expressing your interest in joining this program, your experience in pre-clinical courses and in practicing with highspeed/ low-speed on manikins, and your future goals. 
  • Eligible applicants may be requested to participate in a virtual interview.
